It was a cool yet sunny Monday .
I woke up and as normal put on the only news podcast l allow myself to listen to.
This day was different it was a special on antibiotics and antibiotics and war. Why we originally had them, to help the wounded soldiers in the war. Only after the war did they become main stream.
They also became over used, over prescribed, our meats became loaded with and our water and earth became spoilt by the shear amount.
They are good and life saving many people and animals live longer lives because of them, but many also suffer from over use. Now the bacteria has moved on to became stronger and with more resistance . So what now, and what happens if we had another war, what would our soldiers use? What do we use and our dogs. Antibiotics should be kept for when we have dangerous bacteria to kill, when our life is in danger and we need them. Not for any little thing or as a preventative or to flight a type of bacteria with the wrong strain.
Where do we and our dogs go from here ?
To start with we and our dogs need to care for our microbiome and have good bacteria, there are good bacteria in our gut that gets killed from antibiotics that we never get back. Have great microbiome. Look after the good bacteria we have already with a healthy and varied diet . We have many different types of good bacteria. Probiotics are still the new kid in town. We waste money on supplements that don’t work. Some do and very well. We need a mix and from different sources. Natural live yogurts, kefir, fermented foods, soil probiotics are some of the best you can buy and give. SBO- soil probiotics are live in the soil. You can buy a supplement of these, they feed and give nutrients to the gut. They are great for sibo (a small intestine overgrowth of certain good bacterias) and IBS. Maybe that is why some dogs sometimes ate soil, they are untuned in what their bodies need.
.Not just one or two, when taking probiotics take the ones you need and varied . By taking the same strain over and over doesn’t do you any good . Take probiotics and then stop and take a different kind and if you don’t need them you don’t need them or to overload yourself on them either.
A few hrs later l was driving and l listened to a podcast on dog’s health only to be about natural probiotics and the resistance of antibiotics in dogs. There are some natural ones like Manuka Honey. This comes graded with the lower numbers used for a sore throat a little cut ,a cold, a preventative etc, while the higher medical grade is used for bad gapping wounds, bad broken teeth, dangerous bacteria, even some vets use it after/during operations mine did. My dog once got a cut on him and I clean it and after 2 days took him to the vet where they said why didn’t you bring him sooner. I replied l didn’t want you giving antibiotics . When asked what l was using and l said Manuka Honey they replied thats very good carry on, we use that in operations sometimes.. Again don’t over use this, save it for when you might need it. Even though it’s natural, it can still build up a resistance and might not work with over use.
To finish that day off. I listened to a podcast on war. Someone l knew was on it . If we could go into one, what that would mean, how possible is this. Although we don’t really know there is a chance and that got me thinking . If there was ever a time we should be looking after ourselves and our dogs it is now. Who knows what the future holds. Im sure getting a vet, or medications or oxygen for our pets could be challenging. Covid was bad enough . I had a vets who were told they might have to stop oxygen because there was too much of a human need for it. Thankfully it never really happened and covid got better, but it could. I am not trying to scare anyone but to find alternatives in health, natural ways or natural herbs, medical honey, medicinal mushroom, supplements we can keep incase we might need them . To be our best health physically, mentally and emotionally, learn a bit about mushrooms, herbs nutrition, this is the time. If we never need it then we still have much better health understanding and if we do, we can help each other.

So that cool sunny monday. Told me to be thankful and preventative and enjoy your life and your dogs/pets.
